Colour Aftercare That Actually Works
Toner fades, brass returns, and most of it happens in your shower. Here's the routine that keeps a colour looking freshly done.
Fresh colour is at its most fragile in the first 72 hours while the cuticle settles. Skip washing entirely in that window if you can, and avoid heat styling above 180°C.
Wash cooler and less often. Hot water opens the cuticle and lets pigment escape; every degree you drop buys you tone. Two washes a week is plenty for most colour-treated hair.
Use a sulphate-free shampoo and a pigmented conditioner matched to your tone — purple for cool blondes, blue for lifted dark hair, copper for warm reds. Ten minutes once a week does more than any expensive one-off treatment.
Bond builders are maintenance, not rescue. Used every second wash they keep the internal structure intact between appointments, which is what allows a colour correction to happen in fewer sessions.
Book a gloss at week six. A 30-minute gloss refreshes tone and shine for a fraction of a full colour, and it extends the life of the work already in your hair.
