Storing and Reviving Your Wig Between Wears

A good unit is an investment. Stored properly it holds its pattern for years; stored badly it matts in a season.

Never store a unit damp, and never store it folded in a drawer. A mannequin head or a satin bag keeps the cap shape and stops the crown from creasing.

Wash every eight to twelve wears, or sooner if you use heavy product. Cool water, downward strokes, no circular scrubbing — the knots loosen when you agitate the cap.

Detangle from the ends upward with a wide-tooth comb while the hair is damp and conditioned. Dry detangling on a curly unit is the fastest way to shed density you cannot replace.

Air dry on the stand. Direct heat on a lace cap shrinks and warps it, and a warped cap will never sit flat again no matter how well it is installed.

Bring it in for a revamp once or twice a year. A professional wash, re-knot and restyle will take a tired unit back to something close to new.
